Farmland Preservation protects valuable farmland and habitat for recreationally important animals, like salmon, birds, deer, and elk. These projects allow families to continue farming the land they have worked on for generations, and provide Washingtonians with healthy local food and a diverse economy. WWRP is the only source of farmland preservation funding in the state budget.
Project Highlights
Sequim will use this grant to protect 40 acres of farmland through purchase of an agricultural conservation easement. The land has been successfully farmed since the late 1800s, and has been in hay production for the past 20 years. It serves as an important property for continued dairy production in the valley. It also would be excellent farmland for a variety of other crops. The North Olympic Land Trust and Friends of the Fields Foundation will partner with the city for administration and monitoring.
