Sage Hills Gateway Acquisition

Category Overview

Urban Wildlife Habitat projects fund close-to-home places to play and explore nature. As our urban areas are increasingly expanding and densifying, these grants protect important fish and wildlife habitat within five miles of densely populated areas, creating green refuges that help keep our ecosystems healthy and provide places to enjoy nature right in our backyards.

Project Highlights

Through this project the City of Wenatchee worked with project partners and private land owners to acquire almost 139 acres of property located off of Lester Road and Day Drive, just west of the City of Wenatchee Urban Growth Area within Chelan County. By acquiring this property, the City of Wenatchee sucessfully secured centrally located access to the Wenatchee foothills and a north-south connection to its trail system while also protecting critical shrub-steppe habitat that supports diverse wildlife habitat including, mule deer, migratory songbirds, and raptors. The primary purpose of the project was for habitat protection and the primary outdoor recreation opportunity provided is for non-motorized recreation including hiking and wildlife viewing
