Local Parks grants help protect these symbols of vibrant communities, providing places for families to gather and play and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in an era when people spend increasing amounts of their time inside. The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.

Project Highlights

Bainbridge Island Parks District used this grant to re-develop athletic facilities at Rotary Park which is a ten acre park located in the Winslow area on Bainbridge Island just off of Weaver Rd. The Park District provided specific field and community park improvements to included the relocation of one Little League ball field, a redevelopment of a second, replacing a restroom, and constructed other park amenities including Owens Playground. The primary recreational opportunity provided by this project is community, youth baseball, softball and children’s play.

From the Seattle-Bainbridge Island Ferry north on SR #305, left at the second light onto High School Road, continue west and make a left at Weaver Road, drive south approximately a .10 of a mile and Rotary Park is located on the left at 969 Weaver Road.

What is the WWRP

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
