Category Overview
The State Lands Restoration and Enhancement category provides funding to two state agencies to help repair damaged plant and animal habitat. These grants focus on resource preservation and protection of public lands. Projects in this category help bring important natural areas and resources back to their original functions by improving the self sustaining and ecological functionality of sites.
Project Highlights
The Rock Creek/Cleman Ridge Forest project will treat 1,629 acres with mechanical thinning and some prescribed fire, with site specific prescriptions developed according to the restoration needs of each stand. The project area is within the Naches River Watershed northwest of Yakima, WA. Forest types to be treated range from dry mixed-conifer dominated by ponderosa pine and Douglas-fir, to wet mixed-conifer with western larch and some areas of western hemlock. This project will increase treated stands’ ability to endure subsequent disturbances by insects, drought, and wildfire through high tree vigor and variable habitat types across the landscape. The primary habitat being restored through this grant is forest habitat.
