Local Parks grants help protect these symbols of vibrant communities, providing places for families to gather and play and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in an era when people spend increasing amounts of their time inside. The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.
Project Highlights
Yakima used this grant (along with $115,000 from local service clubs, $190,000 from private donations and $385,000 of city money) to construct a duck pond observation deck; clean and increase the depth of the duck pond and plant native vegetation along the shoreline of the pond and creek; construct a new play structure; construct two new picnic shelters; construct a new CXT restroom; construct a new basketball court; construct a new concrete bridge connecting to the nature area; remove and replace both parking lots to increase the number of parking spaces; construct a new 10-foot wide asphalt walkway.
