Osprey Park Dev. Phase 2

Category Overview

Local Parks grants help protect these symbols of vibrant communities, providing places for families to gather and play and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in an era when people spend increasing amounts of their time inside. The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.

Project Highlights

The proposed Osprey Park Enhancement Plan is the result of an ongoing public/private partnership initiated by a group of local students and concerned citizens. The plan calls for construction of the community’s first illuminated basketball facility, enhancement of existing passive recreation areas, and the formalization of existing parking areas. The need for these improvements has been noted in several public opinion surveys, the City’s Comprehensive Plan and many city council meetings. The resulting improvements will enhance public and disabled access to the existing facilities, address the need for a basketball court, improve pedestrian circulation within the park, and ease congestion on adjacent streets by providing and improved parking area. When completed, Osprey Park will have 37 additional parking stalls, 600 feet of new walking paths, a lit basketball court, one horseshoe pit, and 9 picnic tables and benches. The Project has strong community support. A number of local businesses, developers, and community groups have pledged money, labor, materials, and equipment to the effort. A series of fund raising events sponsored by local youth have drawn continuing support from citizens from with Sultan and the surrounding communities. This project will complete phase 2 of the community’s most successful active recreation facility and serve as a symbol of what grass roots support can accomplish.
