Washington is famous for its gorgeous and abundant waterways, from the Salish Sea to the Nisqually River, but many communities lack open public beaches and waterfronts where everyone can enjoy picnicking, swimming, paddling, boating, and angling. Water Access projects fund public shoreline access, boat launches, and fishing docks to create more opportunities for water recreation.
Project Highlights
Whatcom County Parks & Recreation Department used this grant to buy 239.54 acres on Lily Point developed a passive use park. Lily Point is on the southeast corner of Point Roberts. The park provides access for fishing, beachcombing, swimming, wildlife viewing, and shellfish harvesting. The area is important habitat for salmon, orca whales, and bald eagles as well as being within one of the most important migratory shorebird and waterfowl areas on the West Coast.
