The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.

Project Highlights

Through this project, Kiwanis Methow Park, a 1.26-acre neighborhood park located on the corner of Methow and Spokane Streets in the City of Wenatchee was completely renovated. The park is made up of three distinct terraces. Specific to the upper terrace, the existing playground was expanded with additional play equipment and sun shades added. Park benches, community garden plots, security cameras, restroom, park entry sign and picnic tables with and without a sun shade were also added. On the middle terrace, a landscaped plaza with park benches, picnic tables and kiosko were constructed for gatherings. On the lower terrace, a storm water treatment area was incorporated into the park to address park runoff. The basketball court was replaced with a half court that also has skate features on it’s perimeter. A field turf sports court with soccer goals was constructed with concrete bleacher seating to take the place of a grass area used for micro soccer. A number of additional improvements were made throughout the park. Walkways, ramps and stairs were added to improve circulation. Retaining and seating walls were added to address slope issues. Park lighting was replaced with with energy efficient LED fixtures.. Water, sewer, irrigation, storm water and electrical utilities were installed. New fences were installed around the perimeter of the park and also the field turf field. New park signs were installed. Trees, shrubs and grass was installed in all areas of the park and artwork was incorporated into park features.

Location Details

Head east on highway US-2 East, and follow the course of the road as the name changes to WA 285 South, then keep right to stay on N Miller St, and keep left to stay on S Chelan Ave through downtown Wenatchee. Turn right onto Spokane, and after 1 block, the park is on the left beginning at Methow St.

What is the WWRP

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
