State Parks grants help preserve and develop our state’s best outdoor recreation areas by funding new campgrounds and amenities to increase the capacity of our parks, creating new parks, improving park resources, and protecting historical areas. These grants help our state continue to develop our world-class parks system to share our cultural heritage and natural treasures with all of its visitors.

Project Highlights

State Parks used this grant to acquire 140.7 acres of property on Harstine Island’s eastern shore in Mason County, known as Fudge Point. Of that, 8.91 acres were tidelands, 14.3 acres of riparian area, and 6.09 acres of wetlands.

Location Details

After crossing the bridge to Harstine Island in Mason County, turn right onto E. South Island Drive, then left onto E. Harstine Island Road N, then right onto E. Ballow Road. Just after passing E. Colonel Wright, there is a locked gate to the road that provides the current access to the property

What is the WWRP

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
