Local Parks grants help protect these symbols of vibrant communities, providing places for families to gather and play and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in an era when people spend increasing amounts of their time inside. The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.
Project Highlights
Pierce County Parks and Recreation used this grant to replace the unsafe play equipment removed from Frontier Park in Graham. Elements installed in the the new barrier-free play equipment include ramps, single and double slides, climbers, talk tubes, a tunnel, overhead ladders, crisscross webs, sky wheels and swings. Pour-in-place recycled rubber surfacing was used, allowing easy access and improved safety for children of all ages and abilities. Five parking stalls were renovated, including two accessible stalls. ADA accessible concrete and asphalt pathways were poured to connect the playground and the parking lot. The primary recreation opportunity provided by the project is climbing and active play for children. The playground has proved to be more popular than we could have hoped, with children of all ages and abilities utilizing the equipment constantly since the grand opening on July 10, 2012.
