Washington is famous for its gorgeous and abundant waterways, from the Salish Sea to the Nisqually River, but many communities lack open public beaches and waterfronts where everyone can enjoy picnicking, swimming, paddling, boating, and angling. Water Access projects fund public shoreline access, boat launches, and fishing docks to create more opportunities for water recreation.
Project Highlights
Friends Landing is a 152-acre recreation site developed to provide excellent opportunities for people with disabilities. Project construction includes 1.7 miles of trail, four fishing docks, a barrier-free swim beach, interpretive signs with speaker boxes, and barrier-free access to a dock on the Chehalis River. The facility is considered a model of barrier-free design, and has received extensive community and volunteer support.
