Flaming Geyser–Nelson Property

Category Overview

State Parks grants help preserve and develop our state’s best outdoor recreation areas by funding new campgrounds and amenities to increase the capacity of our parks, creating new parks, improving park resources, and protecting historical areas. These grants help our state continue to develop our world-class parks system to share our cultural heritage and natural treasures with all of its visitors.

Project Highlights

State Parks will use this grant to buy 37 acres next to Flaming Geyser State Park, in the Green River Gorge. In addition to protecting views of the gorge, purchase of the land will ensure continued use of a park trail that runs through it and will provide opportunities to improve the park’s administrative facilities. The land’s well also may be used to provide a much-needed water system for the park. The park does not have potable water, and State Parks has been bringing water in by truck for several years.
