Local Parks grants help protect these symbols of vibrant communities, providing places for families to gather and play and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in an era when people spend increasing amounts of their time inside. The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.
Project Highlights
The City of Lake Forest Park successfully purchased 5.6 acres of urban forested land in 2017 that consists of: a stream, wetlands, hills and dense tree canopy. The City secured a waiver of retroactivity from RCO and processed an interfund loan through the Sewer Capital Fund to make the purchase of this property happen because of the threat of development and timeline proposed. Since the purchase of this property, the park property was officially named Five Acre Woods. Many community members volunteer monthly at this park participating in steward lead work parties or Eagle Scout Projects working hard to restore this forested area and tackle its invasive weeds problem.
