Farmland Preservation protects valuable farmland and habitat for recreationally important animals, like salmon, birds, deer, and elk. These projects allow families to continue farming the land they have worked on for generations, and provide Washingtonians with healthy local food and a diverse economy. WWRP is the only source of farmland preservation funding in the state budget.
Project Highlights
Clallam County will use this grant to preserve 38 acres of farmland through purchase of an agricultural conservation easement. The land currently supports one of the few certified raw milk dairys in the state, and has been farmed since the late 1880s. Although a dairy most of that time, the farm has also been used for organic vegetable production. Approximately 175 acres of adjacent lands are conserved in perpetuity for farmland or habitat purposes. Long-term viability of the farm is excellent. The North Olympic Land Trust and Friends of the Fields Foundation will partner with Clallam County for administration and monitoring tasks.
