Washington is famous for its gorgeous and abundant waterways, from the Salish Sea to the Nisqually River, but many communities lack open public beaches and waterfronts where everyone can enjoy picnicking, swimming, paddling, boating, and angling. Water Access projects fund public shoreline access, boat launches, and fishing docks to create more opportunities for water recreation.
Project Highlights
The Chinese Garden and Reconciliation Park is a unique multi-phased waterfront development project on Commencement Bay in Tacoma. The critical first phase of the development includes beach restoration to provide a natural launch site for nonmotorized watercraft including a site for the annual dragon boat races. The beach restoration will also provide a natural wading area. A shower facility, picnic area, trails, asphalt non motorized ramp and large parking area will complement and provide support for these activities. Restroom facilities are nearby and will be added to this park at a later phase.
