Trails grants help communities and recreation areas fund the creation and improvement of trails for walking, hiking, cycling, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. These grants help make communities more livable, create regional trails systems, and open up beautiful outdoor spaces for people to enjoy. WWRP is the largest source of trail support in the state of Washington.

Project Highlights

Pierce County will construct a 1.2-mile section of pedestrian trail through Chambers Canyon that will connect and improve existing trail segments on either side of the canyon and will include a 140-foot pedestrian bridge, a small foot-bridge across Peach Creek, 1,970 linear feet of boardwalk, and a trailhead along Zorcon Drive. The primary recreational opportunity provided by this project is hiking.

Take exit 125 for Bridgeport Way, Travel 0.2 mi Turn right onto Bridgeport Way SW, Travel 4.0 mi Turn left onto 67th Ave W, Travel 171 ft Turn left onto Chambers Creek Rd W, Travel 364 ft Chambers Creek Rd W turns right and becomes Kobayashi Park Drive Travel 0.1 mi down hill and park at Kobayashi Park Trailhead Take walking path west from trailhead approximately 600 feet, cross Bridge #1 and proceed approximately 300 feet (??) to the project site.

What is the WWRP

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
