Farmland Preservation protects valuable farmland and habitat for recreationally important animals, like salmon, birds, deer, and elk. These projects allow families to continue farming the land they have worked on for generations, and provide Washingtonians with healthy local food and a diverse economy. WWRP is the only source of farmland preservation funding in the state budget.
Project Highlights
Snohomish County will use this grant to purchase development rights on the 54-acre Broers Organic Berry Farm, which grows a wide variety of berries for farmer’s markets, farm stands, and wine. The farm is adjacent to the county’s first protected farm as well as properties the county hopes to preserve under its farm protection program. The farmland is under development pressure in this fast growing community.
