State Parks grants help preserve and develop our state’s best outdoor recreation areas by funding new campgrounds and amenities to increase the capacity of our parks, creating new parks, improving park resources, and protecting historical areas. These grants help our state continue to develop our world-class parks system to share our cultural heritage and natural treasures with all of its visitors.
Project Highlights
From time-to-time during the biennium State Parks learns of desirable properties located adjacent to or within the boundaries of a park. Some of these properties are small and consequently may not compete well during a competitive grant process. Others require immediate action to acquire the property. State Parks will use this grant to buy key inholding properties. In the past, funds from inholding grants have been used to purchase property to remove undesirable neighbors (tavern) from a park, to obtain legal access to a park, and to acquire sites with high natural resources value. State Parks aquired four properties totaling approx 13 acres. Properties acquired: Ben Ure Island – Brady; John Wayne Pioneer Trail – Van Dyke (Malden); Dosewallips State Park – Skolar; Lewis & Clark State Park – Hylton. Properties approved for acquisition under grant but not acquired: Green River Gorge – Beckford; Loomis Lake – King; Yakima Sportsman State Park – Hoech; Moran State Park – Wilcox.
