Description

The Town of Tonasket is applying for a development grant to build a 10,000 square foot skate park and an adjacent 50,000 square foot dirt BMX track. This project will be part of Chief Tonasket Park, which along with the skate park and the BMX track will eventually have soccer and baseball fields. The proposed project is to be built on a site that was once a series of holding ponds for the town sewage treatment facility that are no longer used and have been drained and is being used as a park site. The proposed skate park is designed to provide both street and freeform skate boarding, for all levels of expertise, beginners, intermediate and expert. Both inline and skate boarding facilities will be provided. The features will consist of a series of concrete bowls, 1/4 and 1/2 pipes, ledges, spines, jump boxes. ramps, banks, steps, rails of various heights, vert walls, grinding rails, square and round coping. The BMX track will have approximately 1000 feet of straight runs and mounds designed in a series of curves and banks. Most of the work will be accomplished by volunteers under the guidance of the ABA or the American Bicycle Association. The project includes fencing, a starting gate, a small 10x15- 2 story building for storage, starting events, and ticket sales, a water system, a paved staging area, an area for support vehicles, and bleachers for spectators.
