Description

This proposal is for Phase 1 development of a non-motorized trail system in Reiter Foothills Forest. Establishing a non-motorized trail system is a key component identified in the Reiter Foothills Forest Recreation Plan (adopted April 2010). The non-motorized trail system is planned for development in the NW portion of the forest, extending from Reiter Road north towards (and connected to) Wallace Falls State Park. Phase 1 development will include; establishing temporary parking, partial construction of hiking, mountain biking and equestrian trails, installation of two trail bridges and signing. The Reiter Foothills Forest includes approximately 10,000 acres of sub-alpine terrain situated between the Skykomish River to the south and the Sultan River Basin to the north. The Wild Sky Wilderness Area makes up the eastern border of the forest and public, private, commercial forest and residential lands are located along the western edge.

Location
Travel U.S. Hwy 2 to the southeast outskirts of Gold Bar. Turn north on Reiter Road, and in less than a mile you will come to a split in the road. Continue to your right on Reiter Road to the old gravel pit/parking area. The developed trail system will originate in this area and extend north.

WHAT IS THE WWRP?

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
