WWRP Applicant: State Parks
WWRP Category: State Parks
Status: Funded in 2003
WWRP Grant: $9,869

County: King
Legislative District: 31st,  47th

Description

This project will allow State Parks to purchase several parcels within the Green River Gorge Conservation Area, in King County. The purchases will help fill gaps and connect many of the state and local parks facilities in the area, which is noted for its scenery and access to a natural stretch of the Green River. The sites will follow the priorities approved by the State Parks Commission as part of the 1997 Classification and Management Plan, which received wide public review. The proposed acquisitions include the Nolte Trail Connection, Icy Creek Extension, and Kanaskat-Palmer / Jellum Connection - Phase Two. These properties are mainly second growth forested uplands on the plateau surrounding the Green River Gorge. Collectively, the state parks along the Gorge are among the most popular and heavily used outdoor facilities in eastern King County.
