Description:

Project consists of the purchase of 6.87 acres of upland and waterfront property. Proposed development for this property includes a small parking area (6-8 vehicles), vault restroom, interpretive kiosk on the uplands, a trail from parking lot to the beach area with a bridge spanning the wetlands abutting the base of the hill. The beach portion will provide two handicap parking spots, and accessible trail of approximately 100 feet leading to a viewing platform with interpretive signage. Remainder of the trail on the beach will be primitive with simple flat bridges crossing wetland drainage areas. This property will provide approximately 1500 feet of trail but provides access to over one-half mile of similar beach area. This site has been used by the public for recreational purposes since early in the century. Parks survey showed beach access was the number one priority on Camano Island and this area is included in the Island County Non-Motorized Trail System. A public workshop held on Camano Island concerning this project indicated overwhelming support including near and adjacent property owners. Property owners to the east have indicated an interest in donating their tidelands to the County if the Morris property becomes a park.
