The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife will use this grant to protect 5,705 acres of critical and diverse habitats along south central slopes of the Cascade Mountains near Yakima. The acquisition would protect stream, riparian, wetland, shrub-steppe, oak woodland, aspen, cliffs, and talus habitats. In addition, the following species would benefit: Raptor guild, the bat guild associated with cliffs and riparian draws, white-headed woodpecker, owls, steelhead and bull trout (both threatened with extinction), west-slope cutthroat, sage thrasher, sage sparrow, loggerhead shrike, white-breasted nuthatch, Vaux's swift, Lewis' woodpecker, black-tailed jackrabbit, elk, and big horn sheep. Partners include The Nature Conservancy, Cowiche Canyon Conservancy, and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
