Chehalis River Surge Plain NAP 2006
The Department of Natural Resources will use this grant to purchase 403 acres in the Chehalis River Surge Plain Natural Area Preserve. This preserve protects a complex of estuary and river wetland communities and represents a unique opportunity to protect a large, intact ecosystem with natural hydrologic functions. The property to be purchased includes critical parts of Preacher's and Blue Sloughs, waterways that wind through the heart of the surge plain. These sloughs provide important habitat for salmon and other wildlife. Acquisition of this land will be a significant contribution toward completion of the preserve, which has been recognized as a national priority for protection.
