Description

Beaver Park was dedicated in 1986 as a namesake property honoring an influential Washougal leader, Dick Beaver. Diminutive in both size and impact, the tiny park offers very little recreation value for residents. Once the home of a highly used t-ball field, construction of the Washougal Police Department in 2003 pared Beaver Park down from over an acre to just 0.17 acres. Designated as the recipient of the SR-14 Pedestrian Tunnel mitigation plantings, Beaver Park sits on the cusp of a facelift. Designed to attract winged wildlife, the mitigation plants were selected for flowering and habitat characteristics. Following the "winged” theme, a raptor dig feature adds a much needed playground element to the neighborhood. Benches, a trail, and an ADA accessible gazebo increase access through the site and offers a location to rest and observe flying visitors. The Washougal Parks Department seeks to leverage the mitigation planting plan installation with a recently acquired foundation grant to create a unique and meaningful space for both children and adults.
