Description:

This project adds four tennis courts, a basketball court, and one soccer field to the Barbour Recreation Complex in Chewelah. The current complex consists of two softball fields, one hardball field, one practice football field, one soccer field, barrier free restrooms, storage and parking areas. The complex was originally developed in 1991 using IAC funds through an interlocal cooperation agreement between the City of Chewelah and Chewelah School District #36. Recently a new committee with energy and focus was put together to complete the Complex. There are no public tennis courts within 20 miles of Chewelah and one soccer field for over 30 teams. These additional courts and field will provide a life long sport opportunity for all ages, practice and game courts for the high school teams, youth soccer teams, and community. The addition would also be on school district property and built according to U.S. Tennis Court and Track Builders Association standards and maintained by the school district. The City of Chewelah Activities Coordinator will over see maintenance and scheduling. Local residents of all ages, high school teams and around 30 youth teams will be the groups using the project. Numerous local groups will be financially supporting the project.
