Status
Funded in 2008
WWRP Applicant: Snohomish County WWRP Category: Farmland Preservation WWRP Grant: $78,210 Applicant Match: $78,210 Project Type: Acquisition County: Snohomish  Legislative District: 39th

Snohomish County will use this grant to purchase development rights on 42 acres of the regionally important Willie Greens Organic Farm. Willie Greens grows more than 50 varieties of organic fruits, vegetables and berries. The farm is less than 2 miles south of Monroe and adjacent to a 63-acre farm that is protected by an easement. The soils on the farm are classified as prime farmland soils. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service recently selected Willie Greens for preservation. Willie Greens’ commitment to sustainable farming practices, combined with the farm's highly productive soils, proximity to major markets, and extensive infrastructure make the farm a valuable component of Snohomish County's agricultural economy. Snohomish County will contribute $78,210 from a federal grant.
