The Washington Department of Natural Resources will use this grant to buy land for the West Tiger Mountain and Mount Si Natural Resources Conservation Areas in King County. West Tiger Mountain conservation area contains talus caves, two low-elevation lakes, three stream systems, forested wetlands and old growth Douglas-fir forests. The Mount Si conservation area includes outstanding geologic features, old-growth forest, wildflower communities, and habitat for mountain goat, peregrine falcon, bears, coyotes, cougar, bobcat, deer, elk and a multitude of birds and small mammals. This project reduces fragmentation of an important landscape and ecosystem threatened by residential development.
