Wards Lake Phase I Acquisition
- Status
- Funded in 1999
Acquisition of property along Wards Lake for a new neighborhood park is the focus of this proposal from the new City of Lakewood. In this first phase, the City will acquire nearly eight acres along the small lake. In subsequent phases, Lakewood will develop the property into a grassy picnic area, taking advantage of its waterfront location and a natural grove of oak trees. Lakewood’s long range goal is the purchase of an additional 12 acres to create a 20 acre park which would provide fishing access, picnic sites, a play area and trails. Community support is demonstrated by the commitment from the neighboring homeowners association to “adopt the park.” Currently, the nearest park in the city is two miles away.
Location
In Lakewood just east of I-5 off 84th Street, behind the corner shopping center. Entrance on Pine Street (turn south from 84th on Pine).
