This property provides critical wintering areas for Canada geese, migrating sandhill cranes, other waterfowl, as well as bald eagles, owls, and hawks. The Port of Vancouver will manage the property as part of a larger habitat mitigation area.

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
