The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife will use this grant to acquire 200 acres of intact and highly complex riparian habitat in the lower Easton reach of the Yakima River. The project is just upriver from 212 acres of department land and adjacent to several hundred acres of protected land associated with the Suncadia Resort. The property contains prime spawning and rearing habitat and is a prime corridor used by elk, deer, cougar, and other wildlife. The Kittitas County Commissioners, four local conservation and environmental groups, several fly-fishing businesses, and the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission support the project.

What is the WWRP?

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
