WWRP Applicant: Dept of Fish & Wildlife WWRP Category: Critical Habitat WWRP Grant: $1,922,100 Project Type: Acquisition County: Kittitas  Legislative District: 13th

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife will use this grant to acquire 1,280 acres of habitat in the Teanaway Valley, a key watershed in the central east Cascade Mountains. The land is home to spotted owls, goshawk, steelhead, bull trout, deer, elk and many other animals. This project would protect key owl and fish habitats long-term and assist with spotted owl and bull trout recovery. The scenic Teanaway Valley has high recreational use. Currently, 50,000 acres are owned by a timber company, which is working with the department to transition the land from commercial forests to a combination of planned development and conservation lands.

RCO Project Number: 06-1808
