Squalicum Fields Development Phase 1

The scope of this project is to improve Squalicum Fields as a major athletic field and park complex with supporting functions. Specifically, phase one focuses on design and construction of one irrigated youth baseball ball field with 350 foot outfield, field drainage and irrigation, back stop, fencing, spectator seating, walkways, parking, access drive, park signage, stream enhancement, landscaping and other features. The 2002 Comprehensive Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan (PRO) identifies a need for 12 new youth and adult softball and baseball fields to meet future population growth requirements and to meet the needs of local residents. At this time we have a deficit of baseball fields for youth teams 12 years and older. Currently, sixty 12 and under youth baseball share two (2) unlighted fields and 25 youth baseball teams 2 and over use three city high school ballfields. This project, when complete, will provide an additional five (5) games per week and weekend games for both age groups. Other future phases will include two (2) additional lighted softball fields with dugouts, open ended multi-use lawn areas, picnicking, playgrounds, additional restrooms, pedestrian circulation, stormwater treatment, and salmon habitat enhancement, additional parking and pavilion.

Exit I-5 at Exit #256. Turn left/South on Meridian Street. After c. 1/2 mile, turn right/West on Squalicum Way. Proceed c. 1 mile to site.

What is the WWRP?
The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
