Spokane River Land Acquisition

Status
Funded in 2003
WWRP Applicant: Spokane County Parks & Rec WWRP Category: Water Access WWRP Grant: $1,005,175 Applicant Match: $1,005,175 Project Type: Acquisition County: Spokane  Legislative District: 4th

Spokane County seeks to create a riverfront park in the eastern Spokane Valley by acquisition of two properties totaling 30.98 acres on the Spokane River. County citizens have identified the need for more waterfront parks as a very high priority. Public ownership of waterfront properties has become increasingly difficult as the county continues to grow. The project site meets this public need by providing over one-half mile of water access along the Spokane River. Development at the site will offer a variety of recreation opportunities including fishing from the shoreline, tube or driftboat access, canoe and kayak accesses, possible swimming, and other passive recreation uses. The site will serve as a destination point for users of the Spokane River Centennial Trail which borders the property to the south. This project will be developed with combinations of irrigated turf areas, shelters, restrooms, paved parking, natural areas and connecting accessible pathways. The site will attract users as a premier passive water access/recreation park.

RCO Project Number: 02-1074

State Senators cherry pick projects, ignore WWRP rankings

The State Senate's proposed budget slashes Washington Wildlife & Recreation Program funding to almost half of what Governor Inslee recommended while favoring poorly ranked projects over highly ranked ones. The WWRP's independent ranking system is the key to its years of success, ensuring only the best projects get funded. Take action & urge your legislators to restore full funding today!

LWCF full funding bill reintroduced

Sens. Baucus (MT), Burr (NC), and Wyden (OR) & 4 cosponsors have introduced a new bill, the “Land and Water Conservation Authorization and Funding Act of 2013,” to provide full, permanent and dedicated funding for LWCF. Please join us in asking Senators Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray to renew their support and once again co-sponsor the bill!
