WWRP Applicant: Dept of Fish & Wildlife WWRP Category: Riparian Protection WWRP Grant: $464,283 Project Type: Acquisition County: Skagit  Legislative District: 10th

The Department of Fish and Wildlife will use this grant to buy 93 acres, protecting the last remaining stands of riparian forest along the lower Skagit River. Mature lowland riparian forest was once the dominant habitat type along the lower Skagit River, but incompatible land uses have reduced these forested areas to a fraction of their historic distribution. The Skagit forks area contains some of the highest quality stands of riparian forest remaining. The property contains 30 acres of riparian habitat, 43 acres of wetlands, 20 acres of upland, and a freshwater slough.
