Skagit River Forks
- Status
- Funded in 2007
The Department of Fish and Wildlife will use this grant to buy 93 acres, protecting the last remaining stands of riparian forest along the lower Skagit River. Mature lowland riparian forest was once the dominant habitat type along the lower Skagit River, but incompatible land uses have reduced these forested areas to a fraction of their historic distribution. The Skagit forks area contains some of the highest quality stands of riparian forest remaining. The property contains 30 acres of riparian habitat, 43 acres of wetlands, 20 acres of upland, and a freshwater slough.
What is the WWRP?
The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
