Rose Village Neighborhood Park Acquisition
- Status
- Funded in 2011
The Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation Department will use this grant to buy .5 acre in the Rose Village neighborhood in Vancouver for a park. The Rose Village area is a densely developed, low-income area, isolated by Interstate 5 to the west, State Route 500 to the north, and a major road to the south. Another major arterial bisects the neighborhood east-west, making it unsafe for children to cross to school. There are no parks to serve this neighborhood; and school facilities are available only after school and do not provide play equipment for small children. The City is negotiating with two willing landowners to buy adjacent lots for the park, which will provide a play area for small children. The City will contribute $292,300.
What is the WWRP?
The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
