Riverfront Trail 2
- Status
- Funded in 2001
The City of Castle Rock will transform dredge spoils from the eruption of Mount St. Helens into a riverfront trail that will link neighborhoods and the commercial district to key recreational opportunities. The 2.5 mile trail will run from the high school and athletic complex south through town providing designated access to the Cowlitz River. The trail will greatly improve safety for community members who now have to ride and walk along busy roads with no shoulders. The trail enhances connectivity of wildlife corridors by limiting human intrusion and allowing restoration of the natural habitat along Whittle Creek.
Location
To reach the project area, take Exit 49 from I-5. Go west into downtown Castle Rock on Huntington Avenue (SR 411). Turn right at ""A"" Street SW and go four blocks. Turn right into the City Shop at 360 ""A"" St SW, just before the bridge over the Cowlitz River. Park is accessible from Dike Drive SW and Mosier Road.
