WWRP Applicant: City of Castle Rock WWRP Category: Trails WWRP Grant: $401,146 Applicant Match: $401,146 Project Type: Development County: Cowlitz  Legislative District: 19th

The City of Castle Rock will transform dredge spoils from the eruption of Mount St. Helens into a riverfront trail that will link neighborhoods and the commercial district to key recreational opportunities. The 2.5 mile trail will run from the high school and athletic complex south through town providing designated access to the Cowlitz River. The trail will greatly improve safety for community members who now have to ride and walk along busy roads with no shoulders. The trail enhances connectivity of wildlife corridors by limiting human intrusion and allowing restoration of the natural habitat along Whittle Creek.
