Riverfront Park Trail Development

Status
Funded in 2001
WWRP Applicant: City of Castle Rock WWRP Category: Trails WWRP Grant: $81,221 Applicant Match: $81,221 Project Type: Development County: Cowlitz  Legislative District: 19th

The City of Castle Rock seeks WWRP aid to develop a riverfront trail system along 7,420 feet of Cowlitz River frontage created from dredge spoils following the eruption of Mt. St. Helens. The trail would connect natural features with community and recreational facilities. Currently, there are no public trails to serve residents within the service area. The proposed project would meet part of this need, and transform the dredge spoils into a useful community asset. Broad volunteer participation from civic, community, business, government and youth organizations is evident in project planning and site preparation to date. WWRP support will allow continued community involvement in completing this phase of the Park Plan. Project elements include construction of a paved pedestrian trail and support facilities such as restrooms, parking, and benches.

RCO Project Number: 98-1206

Location

To reach the project area, take Exit 49 from I-5. Go west into downtown Castle Rock on Huntington Avenue (SR 411). Turn right at ""A"" street SW and go four blocks. Turn right into the City Shop at 360 ""A"" St SW, just before the bridge over the Cowlitz River. Park is accessible from Dike Drive SW and Mosier Road.
