Improvements include: three baseball/softball fields; three soccer fields; picnic facilities and shelter; playgrounds for pre-school and elementary age children; barrier-free walkways; tennis and basketball courts; parking, restrooms; general landscaping; and the only skateboard facility in Lacey. The proposed park's development will meet some of the highest rated needs identified in the city's outdoor recreation plan. Those needs include: development of property in city ownership; development of athletic fields; and provisions for general community park elements such as playgrounds and picnic facilities. There has been a high level of public and private support for the project. In 2002, Lacey voters approved a bond issue to help develop this park and provide local matching funds. As a result, Rainier Vista will be the only fully developed community park in this Thurston County community. Key assistance for the park has included a readiness training program"" by the 864th Construction Combat Engineers from Fort Lewis. The Army has helped with major earthmoving efforts resulting in over 600 hours of training and a savings of $500,000 to the city.
