Railroad Trail/Alabama St. Overpass

This development project installs an universally accessible trail overpass for a high-use interurban trail. Pedestrian and bike traffic will be able to safely cross over one of the city's most heavily traveled arterial streets. The Railroad Trail is a popular, heavily utilized 10' wide trail that runs 3.5 miles from the east side of the city to downtown. The trail connects several neighborhoods with two elementary schools, a major shopping area, four parks and one natural area. The trail grade is currently accessible except where it crosses Alabama Street. This project is one of the most requested improvements by citizens of Bellingham.
Location
Take the Iowa Street exit from I-5 north. Turn right at the stoplight and proceed 1 mile east on Iowa Street to Woburn. At the stoplight, proceed norht-easterly on Yew St. approx. 1/2 mile to Alabama St. Turn right on Alabama and go approx. 1/2 mile the Vining. Turn left on Vining and park along side of road. Walk back west on Alabama 1 block to trail overpass site.

What is the WWRP?
The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
