Pioneer Park Expansion

The City of Connell has the opportunity to purchase additional property to expand Pioneer Park to develop two new softball fields and to enhance utilization of the existing swimming pool. The property is currently up for sale for residential development. The owner has agreed to wait to see if this project is funded prior to continuing with the sale. The project involves vacation and physical removal of a street and construction of two softball fields, parking, bleachers, pathways and expanded water oriented facilities including a larger slide and a splash area for smaller children. This expansion of Pioneer Park addresses the city's need for more ballfields and will enhance the water orientation of the park to better serve the North Franklin County residents.

Drive north from the Tri-Cities on Highway 395, take the SR260 exit at Connell, turn right on Columbia Ave. proceed to Birch Street, turn left onto Birch and proceed to the end of the street. The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
