Olympic Discovery Trail (Sequim)
- Status
- Funded in 1999
The City of Sequim, on the northern Olympic Peninsula, is requesting WWRP aid for the acquisition and development of a key segment of the Olympic Discovery Trail which is the highest priority in Clallam County’s non-motorized transportation system plan. Recognizing Sequim’s integral location in the regional trails system, the city identified the current proposal as its local priority project. Sequim’s trail will extend nearly a mile from Whitefeather Way and John Wayne Marina on Sequim Bay, westerly across a refurbished historic railroad trestle which spans Johnson Creek, to the location of a new Visitor’s Rest Stop on Highway 101N. A significant portion of Sequim’s match for the project comes from the generous donation of the railroad trestle and right-of-way by the Wayne family.
Location
This section of Olympic Discovery Trail in eastern Sequim lies just north of Highway 101 from the Simdars Interchange, across the Johnson Creek Railroad Trestle, to White Feather Way.
