Northwest Maritime Center
- Status
- Funded in 2001
This project acquires about one acre of shoreline in the heart of Port Townsend. The site will provide access to 255 feet of Port Townsend Bay waterfront and is strategically located adjacent to an existing public pier, a boat launch, and the Port Townsend Marina. Locals and visitors will be able to launch kayaks from this site, picnic, and walk the beach. The contour drops significantly just offshore, providing a popular spot for practice dives. Future development of a Maritime Center adjacent to this acquisition will provide additional educational opportunities. This project enjoys outstanding public support and will become a focal point along the waterfront.
Location
Follow I-5 North 25.4 miles. Merge onto WA-16 West and follow for 26.7 miles. WA-16 West becomes WA-3 North (25.3 miles). Exit left onto WA-104 for 6.7 miles, then turn right onto WA-19 makes a slight right into WA-20 (1.9 miles). WA-20 then becomes Sims Way/WA-20 (for 2.3 miles), which then becomes Water Street/WA-20. Follow Water Street approximately 0.8 miles through downtown Port Townsend. The Thomas Oil property is on the right hand side, adjacent to the Point Hudson Marina.
