Monroe Street Skate Park
- Status
- Funded in 2003
This project will provide an exciting recreational opportunity for Port Townsend youth. Construction of a permanent skate park facility has been a community goal for several years and is listed as a priority in the parks and recreation plan. The site has been used as a temporary skate park since 1994 and the time has come to create a permanent home for this popular activity. This project enjoys widespread support in the community, including downtown businesses. Port Townsend is a popular destination for families during summer months, and the skate park will be a welcome addition to the many passive recreation opportunities in the area. Benefits include a great location that allows parents to shop downtown while the kids enjoy a popular (and free) recreational activity. The site is also on a bus route, so users can access the park at minimal transportation costs. Youth can ride free in the downtown area. Existing street parking allows the city to maximize the area dedicated to the actual skating features.
Location
From the Hood Canal Bridge heading west on SR 104, take a right turn onto SR 19 heading north, (approx. 5 miles). Follow SR 19 approximately 20 miles into the City of Port Townsend. At the City limits, SR 19 becomes Sims Way. Follow Sims Way approximately 1 1/2 miles until it intersects with Kearney St. At that point, Sims Way becomes Water St. Follow Water St. through the downtown retail district until it makes a left turn onto Monroe St. Make a left onto Monroe St. and the park site is on the right side of the intersection of Washington St. and Monroe St.
