Status
Funded in 2009
WWRP Applicant: Okanogan County WWRP Category: Farmland Preservation WWRP Grant: $395,908 Applicant Match: $395,908 Project Type: Acquisition County: Okanogan  Legislative District: 12th

Okanogan County will use this grant to buy permanent development rights on the 80-acre Stennes farm in the lower Methow Valley. The Stennes family bought the land as a homestead more than 100 years ago and has been farming it for four generations. The family grows organic pears on 45 acres. In addition to farmland, the property contains important riverfront areas along a half-mile section of the Methow River, shrub-steppe, and habitat for animals at risk of extinction, including salmon, bald eagles, and western gray squirrels. The project is part of a farmland protection partnership between the county and the Methow Conservancy, a local land trust. The county will contribute $395,908 in cash donations.
