Lily Point Acq & Development

Whatcom County Parks & Recreation Department will use this grant to buy 146 acres on Lily Point and develop a park. Lily Point is on the southeast corner of Point Roberts. The park will provide walking and boating access for fishing, beachcombing, swimming, wildlife viewing, and shellfish harvesting. The area is important habitat for salmon, orca whales, and bald eagles as well as being within one of the most important migratory shorebird and waterfowl areas on the West Coast. The grant also will reimburse the county for a portion of the 130 acres it purchased there previously. Whatcom County will contribute $1 million in conservation futures and a state grant.
What is the WWRP?
The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
