Leach Creek Property Acquisition

WWRP Applicant: City of University Place WWRP Category: Local Parks WWRP Grant: $75,000 Applicant Match: $750,000 Project Type: Acquisition County: Pierce  Legislative District: 29th 

University Place will use this grant to help buy nearly 15 acres for a park. There are no other parks or public open spaces within the area, which serves about 11,590 residents. The park, which will have baseball fields, a picnic shelter with tables, children's play equipment, benches, and walking paths, also will be home to a trailhead for the proposed Leach Creek Trail. The City will contribute $750,000 in conservation futures.

What is the WWRP?

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
