Lakewood Skate Park

Lakewood is one of the state’s newest incorporated areas. It is a youthful city, with a third of its 65,000 residents under age 18. Through a city-appointed Youth Council, Lakewood’s youth have been consistent advocates of a skate park within the City. To help address those needs, the City is requesting WWRP funding for development of a skate park within Ft. Steilacoom Park, a regional facility next to Western State Hospital. The project is a joint venture with Lakewood and Pierce County Parks. This state-of-the-art structure serving skaters of all skill levels, will be a regional attraction, serving not only Lakewood, but the cities of Steilacoom and University Place as well. The project has received a tremendous amount of support with more than $37,000 in private donations to date.

What is the WWRP?
The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
