Lacey Woodland Trail Development

Status
Funded in 2010
WWRP Applicant: City of Lacey WWRP Category: Trails WWRP Grant: $56,711 Applicant Match: $56,712 Project Type: Development County: Thurston  Legislative District: 22nd

Lacey will use this grant to complete the development of the Lacey Woodland Trail, a multi-use trail along the Burlington Northern Railroad corridor through Lacey. Work will include paving 1.5 miles of the 2.5-mile trail and installing amenities, such as road crossings with traffic control to enhance safety, signs, bike racks, park benches, trash cans, landscaping, and irrigation. The trail will include a 10-foot-wide paved surface with a 4-foot-wide crushed rock shoulder on one side for pedestrians. The completed trail will connect the Lacey Community Center, Senior Center, and neighborhoods, which are situated at the eastern end of the trail, to the central business district and the Chehalis Western Trail at the western end of the project. The trail will be the city's critical link to the regional trail system in Thurston County that connects the southern communities of Yelm, Rainier, and Tenino with the urbanized northern communities of Lacey, Tumwater, and Olympia. Once completed, the Lacey Woodland Trail will connect to another 40 miles of trail throughout Thurston County, creating recreational and alternate transportation opportunities for an estimated 20,000 users every year. Lacey will contribute $400,777 in cash and donations of cash and labor.

RCO Project Number: 06-1797
