Interurban Trail & Trailhead

Edgewood will use this grant to begin developing the city's segment of the regional Interurban Trail. Work will include building a trailhead park at 114th Avenue East and a .83-mile section of trail from that point to Military Road. The trail will be a paved, 12-foot-wide pathway with wetland and habitat enhancements placed adjacent to the trail. Edgewood will construct a wildlife and habitat viewing shelter, an interpretive display, restrooms, parking, seating, picnic areas, and distinctive trailhead signs. Improvements to the 1.44-acre trailhead park include adding a parking lot, lighting, covered picnic tables, benches, informational kiosk, drinking fountain, and restrooms. Edgewood's segment is the missing link in the Interurban-Green River Trail System. The project is supported by the cities of Milton and Pacific, and Pierce and King Counties. Edgewood will contribute $714,920 in cash, conservation futures, and donated labor.

Location

From Meridian Avenue East (SR 161), turn (east) onto Jovita Boulevard. At the light at 114th, turn left (north). The trail will be less than one block north on the left hand (west) side of 114th. This marks the center point between acquisition & acquisition & development portion of the Trail. A metal gate marks this point of entrance of the beginning of the development portion of the trail (to the west). The Jovita Crossroads (trailhead) Park property boarders the Trail on the north side of the Trail entrance location. The address for the Park property is 22 114th Avenue East. The non-development portion of the Interurban Trail is across 114th to the east.

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
